An Opportunity of Defiance

“On the day of emancipation, wear gold
I wore these gold sling backs the day I left my last corporate job 14 years ago. I still wear them on special occasions and each time I do, I remember the sense of empowerment I felt that day.
It was my last act of defiance. A battle fought and won.A door closing so that a new one could open.
I created this business 10 years ago because I believed in the power of defiance. I believed that the way we walk through life matters. And that how we dress sends a message.
What we wear is not fashion, or style, or on trend. It’s an attitude. A statement. A sentence. A story. An intention. A vision. A defiance. A mirror of who we think we are. What we accept. What we don’t.
When I created this business, it was for those women. Those moments.
That’s why we have a standard of what appears on our shelf. If I wouldn’t wear it, if it doesn’t empower, it doesn’t make the cut. It’s personal and that’s what makes it . . . art. No one else could have done it like I did. And no one else will.
We tend to take doors for granted. I hear quite often that people thought I closed. During the COVID years, people stopped walking. Stopped striving. Stopped practicing defiance.
But all doors that open, close, and disappear. Especially when they don’t open enough. Or when other doors are waiting to be opened.
