This is Life. Now.

This is Life. Now.

The other day I met an old friend at the nail salon. Our children started kindergarten together. We talked about our lives. Our work.  Our families.

She was surprised that my shoppe was still here. She shared that everything is online and she never shops in person any more.

I have to say, I hear this a lot.  So often that each time I lose heart a little more.

And then I tell myself that this is just life now. We have all changed. And that my little business is no longer relevant, or not relevant enough to enough people, at least in Regina.

Kind of like the movie, You’ve Got Mail, the story of a struggling boutique bookseller Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) who succumbs to the corporate Fox Books chain store (Tom Hanks) that moved in across the street.

I don’t understand why we tend to flock to the corporate and online options.  Maybe it’s "choice for cheap”, or the perception thereof.

A boutique differentiates on experience, service, environment and a specialized curation. It’s a personal experience, built on relationship.

Maybe the reason we choose corporate over boutique is that we don’t want to engage in a personal experience with another person, because it makes us feel vulnerable.

Maybe when we stopped walking 4 years ago, we lost our way.

It’s fragile.  I remind myself that life is about moving forward and living in the moment.  We all follow our respective paths.

Maybe we need to heal our souls more than we need a new pair of shoes.

Our public hours are by appointment Monday to Friday, Saturday between 12-4 and online any time.
